A GROUP of young textile students from Beaumont School have been making cushion covers to demonstrate the importance of recycling and raise money for the Third World.
The nine girls, all 13 or 14, have given their brightly covered covers to the Hatfield Road Oxfam shop, where they are offered for sale.
Cartriona Mccall, 14, said: "We made them over three lessons.
"I really enjoyed it.
"Everything we used has been recycled.
"It shows that rather than just buying something new every month, you can re-use things.
" It is good to be have made something people can actually use, as well as raising money.
"And we have learned a lot about sustainability as well."
Teacher Melissa Selby said: "Producing cotton uses a huge quantity of water.
"It is very environmentally damaging.
"A quarter of all the pesticides used in the world goes in cotton production."
