CHILDREN at a Radlett primary school celebrated the first birthday of their walking bus with the help of a green and orange dinosaur.

Newberries Primary School, in Newberries Avenue, revived the walking bus one year ago and ten children currently participate once a week.

The Hertfordshire County Council walking bus mascot, Buster, attended the school yesterday to join in the celebrations and was greeted by “lots of hugs” from the children.

Chair of governors Gaenor Morris said she hoped more children would be encouraged to take part in the walking bus.

She said: “The little children we have walked with in the past year have grown in confidence and we have seen them develop as the weeks go by.

“We are having building work around the school at the moment and it helps to clear traffic, making the roads safer, healthier and better for the adults as well as the children.”
