CAMPAIGNERS hoping to save a coach service between St Albans and London have had a constructive meeting with company bosses and agreed to help them promote it.

Bus company Arriva wants to scrap the 712 service, which although cheaper than the train struggles to attract passengers.

After meeting Arriva bosses in Luton, campaigners say they understand the company's problems.

Matt Jackson-Hale said: "The 712 is making an estimated annual loss in excess of £150,000 and when the concessionary payments from bus pass users are cut back, this is only going to get worse.

"Arriva doesn’t have the bulging coffers and excess revenues enjoyed a few years ago.

"It is having to get much leaner to balance the books and this means making some tough decisions.

"To bridge the gap a further 100 passengers per day need to be found.

"We made it clear that we feel that now is the perfect time to be shouting about the benefits of coach travel."
