A WOMAN from St Albans, who once worked as a private investigator, was determined not to reveal her secret to a long life as she celebrated a landmark birthday today.

Surrounded by family and friends, Marjorie Archer marked her 100th birthday at Vesta Lodge care home.

Marjorie, originally from Wembley, moved to St Albans in 1978 after her husband Maurice passed away.

During her working life the centenarian, who received a birthday card from the Queen, was employed as a shorthand typist by many companies, one of which was a private investigator.

Majorie's only child, son David Archer of Redbourn, said he could never get her to reveal any secrets.

David said: “She loved her work, she would much rather be working than at home being domesticated.

“She was still employed as a typist when she was in her 70s, she was just determined to carry on.”

Majorie's niece Angela Bah said: “She's always been an active woman, she likes being busy. She was driving until the age of 88.”

Residents at the Watling View care home enjoyed a cup of tea and cake as they gathered for Marjorie's birthday party.
