A RARE first edition copy of James Bond novel Dr No, left by a kind-hearted stranger at a Harpenden charity shop, has been sold at an auction for £840.
The novel, by Ian Fleming, fetched £340 more than expected.
Before the auction, at Bonhams in Oxford, the 1958 book, still in its unclipped dustwrapper, had been expected to sell for between £300 and £500.
It had been donated to the Oxfam shop in Harding Parade, Harpenden, and was among 29 lots - books, cards and ephemera - handed to Oxfam stores throughout Britain, which were sold for £21,564 at the Bonhams auction on Tuesday, June 28.
