The village festival is held annually to commemorate Vincenzo Lunardi's famous balloon landing in September 1784 and scores of revellers braved uncertain weather conditions to enjoy the stalls and fairground rides on offer.
Rebecca, who had travelled to the community fun day from Hatfield, said “it was nice to see local people come together to celebrate a largely forgotten piece of local history, there was a bit of rain at first but people’s spirits weren’t dampened, and it turned out nice in the end”
Now established as an annual event, further details can be found on www.welhamgreenballoonday.co.uk
