A fashion boutique in St Albans hit the double jackpot at a prestigious awards ceremony, walking away with two top prizes.

The Dressing Room was named Womenswear Retailer of the Year and Independent Retailer of the Year at the Drapers Fashion Awards ceremony on Wednesday.

Deryane Tadd, owner of The Dressing Room, said: “Myself and the team at The Dressing Room put our heart and soul into everything we do and I am incredibly proud that we have been recognised as leaders in this inspiring industry.'

“It was just like a dream we were so over the moon.

The shop, which sits in St Albans High Street, is no stranger to the Drapers Fashion Awards having been crowned Best New Business in 2006 and Womanswear Retailer of the Year in 2009.

At this year’s ceremony The Dressing Room beat off competition from four other nominated stores across the country for the Womenswear Retailer of the Year award.

Ms Tadd added: “We were so thrilled to be up there with the best retailers in the UK.

“It makes the team realise that all the work we put in pays off.

“It was phenomenal – we were absolutely thrilled.”

This year’s award ceremony, which was held at Grosvenor House in London, was hosted by Strictly Come Dancing’s Tess Daly.

Caroline Nodder, editor-in-chief of Drapers, said: “The Drapers Fashion Awards recognised and celebrated a diverse mix of businesses from high street chains, to department stores to boutiques and brands.

“What they all share is a bold and brave attitude to selling fashion in today’s changing climate.”
