AT Cabinet last night (Tuesday 7 February), it was agreed that the Splashlands redevelopment project would be split into two phases, with £1.35 million from the capital budget for 2012/13 released initially, for Phase One. This will cover: * High Ropes course * Highway improvements including a pedestrian crossing * North car park design/layout improvements * Site clearance and levelling of the former swimming pool area.

Cabinet also agreed the start of the tender process for Phase One of the project, which is planned to be completed in time for opening in spring 2013.

The High Ropes course planned for Stanborough Park will be similar to other courses commonly used for family leisure pursuits and team building events, such as ‘Go Ape’ and ‘Aerial Extreme’.

The extra revenue expected to be generated by the High Ropes in Phase One will be set aside by Finesse, the council’s leisure partner, pending a decision on Phase Two.

Further investigation and options about the scope of the wet play feature, anticipated in Phase Two, are yet to be formulated. However, the intention is to ensure that the play park meets the needs of the local audience and likely users of the facility, as well as Finesse and the council.

Cllr Roger Trigg, Executive Member for Housing and Community, said: “I’m pleased that the project is moving forward, with the tender for the Phase One work coming next. Our intention to build and maintain a play park that improves leisure for the local community and enhances children’s play is on the way to being realised. However, the phased approach means that budget and timing of the work can be carefully monitored.”
