Residents joined the mayor of St Albans for a Beating of the Bounds ceremony this weekend, continuing a tradition that is believed to have started in the medieval times.
Mayor Aislinn Lee and Deputy Mayor Geoff Harrison lead a 4.5 mile walk around the city on Sunday, May 6.
The Mayor’s chaplain, Father Tim Edgar, said a short prayer at four locations around the route, including The Pudding Stone in Kingsbury Mill and Keyfield car park in Old London Road.
People were then given the opportunity to beat the markings with willow wands.
Councillor Lee said: "Beating the Bounds is a traditional event for St Albans that brings alive the history of the city."
