A bereavement network in St Albans has held its first open day for children at Butterfly World.

The St Albans and District Bereavement Network invited families who have recently suffered the loss of a loved one to the centre on Saturday.

Ensuring the rain did not spoil their day, families came along in waterproof coats and Wellington boots.

Visitors had the opportunity to take part in a range of craft activities including biscuit decorating.

Families then carried on the fun by participating in a treasure hunt in the Spangle Gal Garden, the enchanted garden and the theatre of insects.

Other activities included counting spider webs and searching for Bill and Ben among the Flowerpots.

Dr Michael Elves, chairman of the network, presented the winners of the day’s competition with prizes to round off the day.

The bereavement network currently provides individual programmes of support to about 60 children every year.
