Hertfordshire Constabulary is on the lookout for new special constables to help look after some of the county’s rural areas.
As part of a recruitment drive to add 150 new specials, the force is looking for people with knowledge of the countryside.
Richard Downs, who volunteers as a rural special near Redbourn, said: "Through my role I regularly liaise with landowners and farmers.
"I can find myself involved in everything from patrolling country lanes, keeping an eye out for speeding drivers and dealing with fly tipping, to tackling poaching and helping to deal with injured livestock and wildlife.
"I believe gamekeepers, farmers and anyone with an interest in wildlife and rural issues can make a very valuable contribution to Hertfordshire Constabulary as a rural special.
"If you would like to make a difference in your community and you really care about rural areas I’d recommend it."
Rural specials have full police powers and uniforms and work alongside the regular force.
Anyone over the age of 18 who can offer at least 16 hours of their time a month can sign up.
