The district’s Round Table is on the lookout for new members to join its ranks as it prepares for its annual Christmas fundraising.

St Albans Round Table is open to men younger than 45 who live in the area.

The group’s well known Santa float will take to the streets in the lead up to Christmas to raise money for charity.

Chairman Gary Lawrenson said: “There must be a lot of men in their 20s, 30s or early 40s who have put down roots in St Albans but perhaps still commute to places like London for work.

“This sometimes means opportunities to get involved in the local community and forge new friendships can be limited.

“For anyone in that situation, St Albans Round Table offers a ready-made solution.

“There are no strange rituals or too many formalities.

“What we have instead is a group of very normal, down to earth guys from a variety of backgrounds and occupations who enjoy getting together for a curry, a beer, some gentle banter, the odd bit of sport and culture and of course the chance to put a little bit back into the community.”
