St Albans City held their annual end of season awards on Easter Monday, and supporters were in good spirits in the clubhouse as the trophies were handed out following the Saints 1-0 Southern League victory over Biggleswade Town at Clarence Park.

Just after the players left the pitch at the final whistle Lee Chappell was presented with the Supporters Player of the Year trophy by Paul Martin of Harpenden Construction.

Chappell joined the Saints from Wealdstone last summer and the marauding left-back has enjoyed an outstanding season that, to date, has seen him score twice in 58 appearances for the City.

The presentations then moved into the clubhouse where another fans’ favourite, Ram Marwa, picked up the Players’ Player of the Year trophy.

Thirty-three year Marwa rejoined the Saints for a second spell towards the end of September and has played a pivotal role in the Saints promotion challenge. Monday’s game was his 139th for St Albans City, during which time the industrious midfielder has scored 17 times.

There was no great surprise when it was announced that John Frendo had won the Goal of the Season award for his spectacular volley against Billericay Town, following a cross by David Keenleyside, last November. Frendo is in his first season at Clarence Park having joined the Saints from Hitchin Town and has scored 39 times in his 52 appearances.

There has never been no more deserving winner of the Wagstaffe Simmons Clubman of the Year trophy than that of John Jones, who received the award from the joint-owner of St Albans City Lawrence Levy. John, whose services are supplied completely voluntarily, carries out a multitude of tasks each day that, throughout the season, save the club a considerable amount of money.
