St Albans Hockey Club’s ladies battled to a 1-0 win at Sevenoaks at the weekend.
It was a strong team display, with second half circle penetrations from the outstanding Ellie Watton eventually paying off in creating the chance for Lottie Porter to slot home the winner.
The ladies’ Seconds took centre stage at Oaklands on Saturday, registering an emphatic 6-0 win over Maidstone.
The goals came from Sarah Embrey, Sarah Fretwell and Jo Weston, with two from Ann-Marie Davenport and one from player of the match Fiona Nekeman.
A 1-1 draw for the ladies’ Thirds meant the day ended with the three St Albans teams all sitting at the top or joint top of their respective leagues. Elsewhere the ladies’ fifth XI registered a 3-2 victory and the ladies’ Boadiceas claimed a 2-2 draw.
In the men’s games there were wins for four of the club’s teams, including a 6-2 victory for the Fifths against local rivals Welwyn Garden City Thirds. But the first team had a disappointing day at the Lee Valley hockey centre, losing 4-2 to Wapping.
This Saturday sees both first teams in front of the their own fans at Oaklands. The men entertain Felixstowe at 3pm while the ladies take on Wimbledon at 6pm.
