St Albans Hockey Club men’s first team are sitting at joint top of the East Premier League after a 2-0 win over Cambridge University at Oaklands on Saturday.

The hosts were too strong for their opponents and goals from Martin Scanlon and Matt Davey were enough to fire them to the league victory.

Success was echoed throughout the club and brutal displays of finishing saw emphatic victories for the men’s seconds, sixth and seventh teams.

St Albans seconds were in ruthless form as they thrashed West Hampstead 8-1 in a one-sided encounter.

The sixth team also won by exactly the same margin against Bishop’s Stortford.

St Albans sevenths were also in excellent form as they eased to a 6-1 win over Rickmansworth.

The men’s fourths also fought out a tense 3-2 victory against Winchmore Hill and Enfield.

Meanwhile the club will be running another of its hugely successful junior hockey camps at Oaklands in October half term.

The clubs are designed for all ability levels with everyone welcome and are run by GB and England international Ellie Watton.
