St Albans Rangers Under-18 Whites recorded a comfortable 4-2 win over Abbots Youth Blue in the second round of the WFL League Cup on Sunday.

Man-of-the-match Ben Patrickson opened the scoring with a clinical finish from a Matt Sears-Black cross and Charlie Fortt added the second after a goalmouth scramble as the opposition repeatedly failed to clear their lines.

Abbots responded with a screamer into the top corner but Patrickson restored the two-goal advantage soon after following an excellent cross from James Drury.

Rangers kept up the pressure in the second half, with leading goalscorer Nick Emson adding the fourth before Abbots pulled another screamer out of the hat.

Jack Faulder was unlucky to clip the bar from a free-kick as Rangers saw out the game.

The Under-18s Zelos were beaten 2-1 by Berkhamsted Raiders.

Rangers’ scorer was Alex Newham, with Matt Farmer starring with an energetic performance in midfield.

The Under-16s played heroically before succumbing 3-1 to Omonia Green in the Challenge Cup.

Andy Sears-Black scored an equaliser and man-of-the-match went to centre-back Oscar Gibbon.

Ben St Clair bagged the goal and Marli Pumford was man-of-the-match.

The Under-11s crashed out of the League Cup in a 9-5 defeat at Edson.

Conceding after 45 seconds due to sloppy defending, Rangers equalised through Yassin Abdelkafi but fell apart thereafter, conceding goals from all angles due to woeful defending.

It was 7-1 at half-time and the game all but over but a header from Harrison Reeve reduced the deficit and Callum Dobbie’s neat finish sparked a mini revival, with Harrison scoring his second and Matthew Head netting from close range to pull things back to 7-5.

A handball in the box gave Rangers a penalty, which Joshua Hillier put wide of the right hand post, and he then uncharacteristically missed another opportunity to reduce the deficit when through one-on-one.

That was the end of Rangers’ challenge, with Edson finishing the game with a couple of goals at the death.

Rangers Under-9s enjoyed an emphatic 6-0 win at Borehamwood Youth in the league.

London Colney Colts Under-12s exited the Challenge Cup following a 3-2 defeat to Croxley Guild.

Colts took the lead thanks to Harry Chuter’s excellent solo effort and looked good value for their lead.

But the game was turned on its head after the award of two first-half penalties to the opposition, both of which were converted.

Colts equalised after the break through the impressive Ryan Sutherland only for the opposition to snatch the winner late on.

Ciaran Hennessy was man-of-the-match for his good defensive play.

Colts Under-16s came from behind to win 4-3 away to Whetstone in the Challenge Cup with goals from Yannick Saminaden and a hat-trick from Brandon O’Malley.

Man-of-the-match went to Gareth Folwell for another dynamic midfield display.
