St Albans Bowling Club celebrated a win in the fourth round of the county pairs.

After an enjoyable evening of bowling, John Bartlett and Steve Wilson beat John Bell and Don Knight of Hatfield 25-15.

Ken Budd faced Chris Read of Welwyn & District in the District Officer’s singles and he managed to complete a 21-8 victory.

In the fours, Andy Kay, Alan Turner, Ken Harding and Dave Church were tied 20-20 at 21 ends against Mike Woodhams team from Hatfield. The game had to be decided with an extra end which saw St Albans edge to a 22-20 victory.

In the second round of the pairs, Oliver Wall and John Bartlett lost 21-17 to David Braid and Kevin Hull of Hatfield. In the preliminary round of the singles, Tricia Gascoine secured a 21-18 victory over Beryl Birch at Harpenden.

The midweek men played Potten End at home. It was a very close match with St Albans narrowly losing 78-76. The top rink was Colin Smith, Eddie Grzywacz and Neil Simons (21-11).

The ladies played an away match against North Mymms in the District Friendly League.

St Albans won on both rinks picking up the 80 points available after a 41-35 victory.

Top rink in the match was Eileen Englebright, Inez Gillies, Eileen Cox and Marjorie Knight (21-16).

St Albans played two mixed rinks at Garston.

The opposition won on both rinks to seal a 49-33 victory.

The side played Cheshunt on Sunday but it resulted in two defeats. The ladies were beaten 40-33 while the men's team lost 43-33.

In the St Albans & District Friday Triples League, the ladies lost both their home and away matches against Welwyn & District BC who picked up the six points available.

The men also lost both their home and away matches against Potters Bar.
