Harpenden’s Janet Hubball was crowned county unbadged singles champion at the Hertfordshire mini finals at Baldock.

Hubball beat Sandy Wornham (Watford Owls) 21-17 in the semi-final and then went on to defeat Garston’s Elaine Coles 21-15 in the final.

Harpenden’s Lesley Tutt lost in the last-four to Coles.

Pauline Taylor, Jan Holland and Linda Brooks won the Benevolent triples title after a three-shot win over Bushey. The trio had earlier beaten a Rosedale side by three shots in the semi-finals.

Four Harpenden men got through to the national competition at Worthing.

Tom Muir lost in the U-25 singles to a player from Cambridgeshire 21-16. The triples team of Woody Donoghue, Muir and Nick Muir won round one against a team from Berkshire 25-14. In the second round they lost by three points to a Lincolnshire team 15-12.

In round one of the district officers’ singles, Beryl Birch beat Diana Barratt (Welwyn & District) 22-16. Holland played Joyce Terry (Harperbury) and also won 21-20 to reach the semi-finals.

In round three of the ladies district pairs, Debbie Turner and Beryl Birch won easily against Mary Hathaway & Joyce Terry (Harperbury) 31-14.

Linda Newby lost to Welwyn Garden City's Elaine King 21-15 in the ladies district singles.

In their first round match, Harpenden pair Newby and Hubball won their ladies district Australian pairs match against Welwyn pair Brenda Hughes and Norma Cox.

Two Harpenden teams faced each other in the district triples as Dena Roberts, Hubball and Holland beat Val Christiaans, Lorna Thomson and Pauline Taylor 20-12.

Harpenden men played an away match at De Havilland and won 80-48. Their top rink was Tony Marriott and Noel and Lyn Roberts.

The club played a mixed match against Berkhamsted and eased to a 113-58 win.

Top rink was Wendy Cruikshank, Tim Dale, Angela Favell and Rob Newby.

The midweek ladies game against Luton Co-op saw a draw on one rink and a loss overall by five points.
