London Colney sit seventh in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division after they claimed a 2-0 win against Hadley on Saturday.

The Blueboys’ first chance arrived in the second minute as Jimmy Hartley latched on to a pass from Matt Newman, rounded the goalkeeper but shot wide.

Hadley goalkeeper Russell Garland had to be on his toes to deny Greg Shaw from 30 yards but he was eventually beaten when Hartley ran on to a through ball and calmly stroked his effort into the net.

Hartley then had another low effort saved by Garland, who had to be quick off his line to clear the danger when Newman closed in on a Shaw pass.

Hadley put some dangerous crosses into the box from both wings but these were dealt with by timely headed clearances from Tom Smith and Shaun Murphy.

Just before half-time a great pass from Newman found Danny Fitzgerald and his shot across the face of the goal eluded the fingertips of Garland but went wide of the post.

Early in the second period the Blueboys had a goal disallowed when Russell Gallagher drove the ball across the box and Hartley tapped home but he was offside.

Dan Power then threatened as he made a surging run from his own half and skipped past two defenders before passing to Newman. He took a touch and released a strike which went narrowly over the crossbar.

Just past the hour mark, the Blueboys went 2-0 ahead. A long throw in from Dan Power found Martin Collins and his strike was pushed away by Garland only for Hartley to fire the rebound home.

Collins then set up Newman, whose fine strike went just over the bar and the same player was thwarted by Garland, who made a terrific save from his low drive from 12 yards.

Newman, who was searching for his 100th goal, saw another shot fly past the far post as Colney saw out the contest comfortably to claim the three points.

London Colney Colts Under-14s were in fine form as they thrashed EBOG Juventa 10-2.

Danny Diviney, Alessandro Fardella and Dylan Rushton netted hat-tricks while Callum Dobbie grabbed a single.
