St Albans and the surrounding area really is a glorious place to be in the springtime.

There is the fresh new greenery in Sandpit Lane and the variegated blossom in Sandridge Road. The spring flowers in our parks and gardens and the many beautiful bluebell woods within a short drive are just examples.

It is a time for me to thank God for the wonder, beauty and diversity of His creation. It is a time of warmth and new life springing up everywhere after the darkness and cold days of another winter and brings new hope. It also makes me reflect on the shortness and fragility of life. At my age even the Queens 90 spring times don’t seem that many!

We have experienced again this winter the sadness of bereavement and serious illness around us. But we have also had the joy of the birth of a new granddaughter and the pleasure of seeing her incredible development, faster and so much more complex than any emerging plant. Her first smiles were like the blossom of spring and guaranteed to lift any soul! And so the circle of life continues.

The dark day of Jesus’ crucifixion was followed by his glorious resurrection and ascension to heaven giving eternal hope to all who follow him. As we enjoy another spring during this short time on earth perhaps it’s also a time to reflect on our future hope.
